Easy Caramel Sauce
This is an easy and really practical recipe taken from about.com/food, I guess you can make this recipe with brown sugar too and give extra flavor to it. It can be stored up to 2 weeks in your fridge.
Caramel Sauce Ingredients
For this recipe you will need: 1 cup of sugar 6 Tbsp butter 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
Set Up the Caramel Sauce Ingredients
Before you begin, place the cream and the butter next to the pan, so it is ready to put in. It is important to work fast when making caramel or else the sugar may burn.
Melt the Sugar
First pour the sugar into a 2 or 3 quart pan over high heat. As the sugar begins to melt, stir constantly with a whisk.
As the sugar starts melting, you will see that small light brown crystals start to form. Once those crystals have melted, you will have liquid sugar, which is a dark amber color.
Melt In the Butter
Now add the butter to the pan and continue to whisk until the butter has melted. Once the butter has melted, take the pan off the heat.
Mix in the Cream
Slowly pour in the cream while continuing to whisk. You can see that the butter and cream causes bubbles and foam, which is why we needed to use such a large pan.
Stir the Caramel Sauce
Continue to whisk until caramel sauce is smooth. Let cool in the pan for a couple minutes, and then pour the caramel into a glass mason jar. You’ll see I am using a pot holder, because the caramel sauce is still quite hot.
Serving and Storing Caramel Sauce
Let it sit until it is at room temperature and then store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Warm before serving. Enjoy.
